Sindh High Court (SHC) rejected the bail petition of former deputy managing director, Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) Shoaib Warsi over his alleged involvement in embezzlement. Warsi is currently in the custody of National Accountability Bureau over charges of illegal gas connection approvals and misuse of powers during his tenure. The SHC bench headed by Justice Naimatullah Phulpoto rejected the bail plea after hearing the arguments from NAB and petitioner's counsel.
Earlier, Warsi had submitted that he was picked up by the Rangers on August 26 last year and he remained in their custody for the period of three months. After the expiry of his 90-day preventive detention, he was handed over to the NAB. The petitioner had submitted that he was not involved in any criminal activity and all the allegations levelled against him were baseless. He contended that since he was innocent, his arrest was the violation of articles 3, 4, 9, 10 and 14 of Pakistan's constitution.
