Like other part of the world the World Day of the International Military Sports Council (CISM) Thursday celebrated under the aegis of PAF Sports Control Board Committee at its premises here on Thursday. Air Commodore Zia Ur Rehman, Officer Commanding Air Headquarters Unite Peshawar was the chief guest on this occasion. Director PAF Sports Control Committee Group Captain Asghar Awan, other military and civil officials, players of various games from Pakistan Army, Pakistan Navy and host PAF took part in the celebration.
The commemoration of International Military Sports Day which was founded on February 1948 and its goal is to contribute to world peace by uniting armed forces through sports. The motto under which CISM operates in - Friendship through Sports organize various sporting events for the armed forces of its 134 members countries and is one of the global sports organizations where the largest number of disciplines of sports is represented. Soldiers, who may previously have met on the battle fields, now meet in friendship on the sports playing fields. This is in accordance with the philosophy and the ideals which were set in CISM's mission statement in 1998, signed by all the members' countries.
CISM annually organizes over 20 Military World Championships for different sports in which all member nations can take part. It organizes military World Games every four years and most recently World Cadet Games are introduced. Besides this it also organizes continently and regional competitions as well. These are multi-sports events organized by CISM in conjunction with CISM members' nations. CISM on one side invests very significantly in sports for peace activities and on the other hands in attempts for solidarity.
To celebrate the day, a 5 km race was also organized on this occasion. The chief guest also lauded the PAF academy players who secured position in the National squash event held in Hyderabad comprising Muhammad Ammad winner of Under-11, Under-13 Asad Ullah (winner), Ali Sher (runners-up of Under-13), Uzair Shoukat (Under-15 runners-up), and Under-17 Abbas Zeb (winner).
