The Karachi Port handled 78,376 tonnes of cargo comprising 51,673 tonnes of import cargo and 26,703 tonnes of export cargo including 4,768 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Thursday. The total import cargo of 51,673 tonnes comprised of 28,145 tonnes of containerised cargo; 5 tonnes of general cargo; 2,789 tonnes of bulk cargo: 1,502 tonnes of steel scrap; 1,287 tonnes of soyabean meal and 20,734 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 26,703 tonnes comprised of 13,513 tonnes of containerised cargo; 20 tonnes of general cargo and 13,170 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 4,768 containers comprising of 1,793 containers import and 2,975 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Thursday.
The breakup of imported containers shows 798 of 20's and 479 of 40's loaded while 1 of 20's and 18 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 333 of 20's and 220 of 40's loaded containers while 1,416 of 20's and 393 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours. There were two ships namely Batam Trader and Bofors carrying containers and tug respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period.
There were five vessels viz. Batam Trader, YM Express, MOL Dedication, UBT Fjord and Bofors carrying containers, oil tanker and tug respectively currently at the berths. There were two ships namely Netherlands and Ever Unique carrying containers sailed out to sea on Thursday. There were three vessels viz. Robert Rickmers, Xin Nan Tong and Ken Moonys carrying containers and steel due to arrive on Thursday while three vessels viz. Hyundai Freedom, GPT-2 and Georgianna Bo carrying containers and coal respectively are due to arrive on Friday.
