Spot cash basis bids for hard red winter (HRW) wheat were steady in the southern US Plains on Wednesday, traders said. Dealers said interest in wheat was quiet, but that could change as the outlook for new crop begins. Warm weather in Oklahoma is expected to spur growth of the region's wheat in the next two weeks. Some fields may start to reach the "hollow stem" phase, when producers need to halt grazing or else risk losing yield potential, an Oklahoma State University extension agronomist said.
Protein premiums for railcar wheat to and through Kansas City were unchanged on Tuesday. As of 9:40 am CST (0940 GMT), K.C. March HRW wheat was up 3 cents at $4.53-3/4 a bushel.
