K-Electric released information about the ongoing Operation Burq against heavy defaulters and power thieves from all pockets of the city. As per the press statement, 67 raids were conducted and around 3000 Kundas (illegal connections), weighing 650Kg were pulled down. Raided areas included Orangi, Lyari, Uthal, Site, Bahadurabad, Saddar, Garden, Liaquatabad, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gadap, Johar, Malir and Korangi amongst others.
The teams disconnected 2,234 connections with dues worth Rs 220 million in areas of Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Federal B Area, North Nazimabad, Nazimabad, North Karachi, Surjani and Liaquatabad.
A commercial building Mateen Mobile Mall located in Gulshan-e-Iqbal was caught red-handed and found guilty of stealing electricity that amounted up to 30KW of power supply. A few multi-storey residential complexes along with a madrasa were also found involved in power theft in the same vicinity. KE team disconnected illegal connections and charged penalty on the spot.
During the course of other raids, KE team pulled down 350 kundas from Lyari, 200 hook connections from Clayton and 150 Kunda from Marton Quarters. Additional raids were conducted in Shah Faisal, Malir, Johar, Gadap, Orangi, Bin Qasim and Landhi against residential and commercial power thieves.
In another raid, KE team found 30 culprits involved in electricity theft from the areas of PIB Colony, Ghusia Colony, Liaquat basti, Sindhipara, Haji Oil, KarnalBasti and Essa Nagri. The illegal connections were removed instantly and on spot charge of penalty were seen in these cases.-PR
