The third in-camera meeting of Sub-Committee of Parliamentary Committee on Electoral Reforms was held under chairmanship of Dr Arif Alvi and took stock of progress on bio-metric system of authentication of voters and use of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) in the next general elections. The Sub-Committee under Zahid Hamid in last meeting hinted that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is ready to buy EVMs. The tenders for purchasing EVMs will be issued soon.
The purchasing of EVMs is expected to be completed till September 2016. Electronic Voting Machine will be tested after September, in any by-election. The objective of this exercise is to restore the trust of public on ECP after use of EVMs in the elections. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has on several occasions demanded to launch EVMs, in order to prevent irregularities in the election process.
