All-Pakistan Oil Tankers Owners Association (APOTOA) will stage a demonstration on Tuesday to protest against what it called police's highhandedness with tanker drivers. APOTOA's senior vice chairman Shams Shahwani told Business Recorder that oil supply from Mochko and Hub Chowki area will remain suspended during the demonstration and the protest would continue as long as the culprits involved in extorting money from tanker drivers are not punished.
Accusing the officials of Mochko police check post of harassing tanker drivers, he alleged that the officials posted at the check post have, on an average, been extorting Rs 1 million daily from tanker drivers. "Our association through a letter has informed AIG Sindh police that Mochko police check post in charge Khalid and ASI Mehboob have been extorting money from tanker drivers," he said, and added: "We also held a day-long protest against the police's unlawful act of extorting money from tanker drivers on January 12, but to no avail".
