Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday said that Pakistan supported the government and people of Maldives in their struggle for achieving true democracy and strong democratic institutions. He was talking to President of Maldives, Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, who telephoned him. The Prime Minister said there was a need for Commonwealth to assist Maldives in strengthening its democratic Institutions.
Prime Minister Sharif said that Pakistan enjoyed mutually beneficial relations with Maldives and strictly pursued policy of non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries. The Maldivian President said that Pakistan was his country's trusted friend and brotherly country.
