Expressing dismay over Capital Development Authority (CDA) in failing to meet task of clearing encroachments and business operation in residential areas on Thursday, the top court asked the relevant authorities to come up with a tangible solution.
Appearing before a two-member bench of Justice Azmat Saeed Sheikh in a case about removal of blockade on roads from different parts of Islamabad, Additional Attorney General for Pakistan Aamir Rehman sought more time for shifting the Inspector General Police office from residential area.
Rehman informed the bench that 80 percent construction work on the proposed building of the IGP office had been carried out so some more time was required to observe the court order in the matter. To which Justice Azmat Saeed Sheikh said, "Are you suggesting the court to abandon the law till construction of building for the IGP office?" Justice Sheikh plainly said no provision existed in the law to grant time in the matter in hand, saying the court had nothing to do with real estate business but to ensure the rule of law.
Reprimanding over the situation, Justice Azmat Saeed Sheikh observed that it would be better if the CDA rules and regulations could be suspended and other law enforcement agencies should be given the target to carry out the authority's business. Later, hearing of the matter was adjourned till March 3.
