PCDMA opposes proposed anti-dumping duty

Pakistan Chemical and Dyes Merchant Association (PCDMA) has strongly opposed the proposed anti-dumping duty on hydrogen peroxide, saying it was an important raw material for the export-oriented industries. In a letter sent to National Tariff Commission (NTC), the PCDMA chairman Khawaja Arif Kapoor said that NTC in order to save the business of local manufacturer had imposed more than 60 per cent anti-dumping duty on hydrogen peroxide in 2011, but the importers of this item continued to incur losses.
Recording the importers' protest over the issue to the NTC, Khawaja Kapoor said that hydrogen peroxide imported from Belgium, China, Indonesia Taiwan, Korea, Vietnam, Turkey and Thailand is to meet the requirement of industries, including textile industries, whereas imports from Bangladesh was less then three per cent of local manufacture, but even then the NTC wanted to include Bangladesh in the list of anti-dumping which, he opined, was totally unjustified.
He also pointed out in the letter that the rate of importing hydrogen peroxide is the same as that of export and hence there is no justification to impose anti dumping duty. He urged the NTC to review its decision of anti-dumping duty on hydrogen peroxide and save the business of local industry as well as of importers.
