Traders from Bara, Khyber Agency had demanded new financial package to help revive their militancy affected business in their respective areas. The trading community and tribesmen of Bara have suffered a lot due to militancy and later the operation of security forces. The bazaar of Bara remained closed for a period of over seven years. The government has repatriated the temporary displaced persons (TDPs) to their respective areas, but the traders are still waiting for their financial relief package to revive their seven-year old disturbed business.
The displaced traders has established a new bazaar at Bata Thal, a suburban locality of Peshawar and waiting for government's support to return homes. Talking to this scribe, Mohammad Ayaz Afridi said that the traders had lost entire assets and had shifted only family members to safer places and now they are lacking financial resources to restart business. "Till migration from Bara we were paying a rent of Rs 2000 per month but now land owners are demanding at least Rs 50000 advance and Rs 7000 monthly rent for same shops which is beyond our resources," one trader said.
The second major issue, he said was ban on free movement of people due to security reasons and customers could not come to Bara Bazaar in prevailing situation. Some other vendors including Kamran, Shafiullah and Inamullah also expressed similar views, saying that after dislocation from own hometown they had no permanent earning sources and waiting anxiously for reopening of Bara Bazaar to seek jobs.
