Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif on Sunday reached Peshawar and attended funeral prayers and offered Fateha for soldiers who were martyred in Shawal on Saturday in search of hidden terrorists and exchange of fire during encounter with them.
Namaz-e-Janaza was offered at Corps Headquarters which was also attended by senior civil and military leadership, Inter Services Public Relations news release said. The COAS expressed solidarity with the bereaved families and later visited the injured soldiers at CMH Peshawar.
Later, the COAS visited the Corps HQ where he was briefed by Corps Commander, Lieutenant General Hidayat-ur Rehman about the latest progress of operation in Shawal. The COAS expressed his complete satisfaction over final push in North Wazirastan to evict terrorists from isolated pockets of Shawal, close to Pak-Afghan border.
Paying rich tributes to the sacrifices and resilience of soldiers who are courageously fighting terrorists in difficult mountainous area of Shawal, the COAS said, "We are determined and will go to any length to finish all pockets of terrorists from any nook and cranny of the country."
Meanwhile, Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif on Sunday visited Combined Military Hospital (CMH) Peshawar and enquired about well-being of soldier of Afghan National Army (ANA).
ANA soldier Alam Zeb was evacuated from Bajaur on February 25 in an injured condition (head injury) by Pakistan Army and was admitted to CMH Peshawar, Director General ISPR Lieutenant-General Asim Saleem Bajwa tweeted. The Afghan soldier had sustained injuries in Afghanistan due to terrorists fire and was evacuated to a Pakistani post and later to Peshawar.
