The Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs (SAPM), Syed Tariq Fatemi, congratulated the Pakistani film-maker, Ms Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy for winning the Academy Award for her documentary "A Girl in the River - The Price of Forgiveness" .The award was announced a little while ago at a ceremony held at Los Angles, United States.
In his message, the Special Assistant stressed that it was a matter of pride for the nation that a daughter of Pakistan had yet again, achieved this distinction, which was a source of inspiration for all Pakistani women. He appreciated the invaluable contribution made by Chinoy for promoting the concept of rights of women in Pakistan through her art, by drawing attention to socially challenging issues.
He recalled the Prime Minister's bold and forth-right remarks on the occasion of the screening of Chinoy's movie at the Prime Minister's Office on 22 February 2016, in which he had stressed that there was no honour in honour-killing, and had emphatically reiterated Government's unequivocal resolve to ensure women's rightful place in society, as well as to bring an end to violence against women. The Special Assistant to the Prime Minister expressed the hope that Chinoy will continue to use her art for bringing meaningful change in the society. -PR
