The University of Agriculture Faisalabad(UAF) on Monday opened spring festival which brings colourful events including book fair, agricultural exhibition, greyhounds race, agricultural exhibition, book fair, Kissan convention, fancy birds show; tent pegging, nutrition festival and many more.
On the fist day of Spring Festival 2016 on Monday, the book fair was arranged at the Main Library that remained a centre of attraction for book lovers. The fair which will continue till March 5, was inaugurated by UAF Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan. At the fair, 32 stalls are established in which 70,000 books are put on the display on the subsidised rate.
Speaking to the participants, the Vice Chancellor said the festival was meant for providing a platform to enhance the interaction among farming, researchers and industry that will help increase agricultural productivity. He also showed his concern that with the technological development, the book reading trend is showing a declining trend. He stressed upon the need to promote book reading habits as it helps in ideological growth of the people. He said that significance of books remains intact and it is imperative for development. He said that UAF was setting up another state-of-the-art three-story library comprising 39,000 square feet in which a heavy space will be given to e-library keeping in view the new trends. The greyhounds' race was also arranged in which 20 imported greyhounds and 25 country breed greyhounds are participating that will continue till March 2.
