Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) chairman, Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao has voiced concern over the postponement of national census in the country, saying that it is constitutionally obligation to conduct the census after every ten years, and further delaying tactics in this regard can not accepted.
Sherpao in a statement here on Tuesday, said that successive governments didn't pay attention to holding real census in the country and took delaying tactics to prolong the process, aimed at to create hurdles to distribution of resources, and subdue rights of smaller provinces.
The QWP chief said it is matter of grave concern to again delay national census in the country, which is much important to ascertain the actual population ratio. He added the sense of deprivation among smaller federating units is growing with the passage of time, and expressed fear for casting negative impacts on the federation.
Sherpao said the county is passing through critical phases of its history, saying that financial uncertainty, unemployment, price hike, and lawlessness were made life of common man miserable.
While on the other hands, he maintained the federal government was continuously ignoring the rights of smaller provinces, by keeping in view only the right of single province, which had originated various complexities and issues. The QWP chief stressed that it was prime obligation of all chief executives of four provinces to put pressure of the centre to timely conduct national census in the country, to ascertain actual ratio of the population, besides to ensure distribution of resources on equitable basis among the smaller federating units. The provinces, he further emphasised, should convince the federal government on this important national issue. He, however, said the federal government intentionally delayed the process, which was matter of grave concern and couldn't acceptable at any cost.
