Frontier College for Women Peshawar clinched the trophy after defeating Charsadda No. 1 in the final of the Table Tennis event part of the Higher Education Department, KPK Inter-College Girls Games being played here at PSB Hall on Tuesday.
Frontier College team comprising international player like Kainat Khan, who recently represented Pakistan in the Asian Table Tennis Championship played at New Delhi, India, did not give much time to Charsadda No. 1 players to stay for long time. Having services of other national players like Iqra and Nimra, Kainat defeated Remsha of Charsadda No. 1 in straight sets, the score was 11-4, 11-2 and 11-3, Iqra recorded victory against Sana in straight sets, the score was 11-3, 11-7 and 11-5 while Nimra outclassed Maria of Charsadda No. 1 by 3-0, the score was 11-7, 11-8 and 11-5.
Earlier, in the semi-finals FCW defeated City Gulbahar team and Charsadda No. 1 outclassed Tajo Bibi Girls College Charsadda by 3-0. Before reaching to the semi-final Tajo Bibi defeated Girls College Chargarmatti, Charsadda No. beat Girls College Matra by 3-0 and secured victory against Girls College Bacha Khan.
In the Badminton event Frontier College for Women Peshawar, City Gulbahar, Shabqadar Girls College and Girls College Matra took berth into the semi-finals after recording victories against their respective rivals in the quarter-finals and first round.
In the first quarter-final Frontier College Urooj defeated Sumbal of Charsadda No. 1 after a tough fight as both stretched to five sets, the score was 23-21, 17-21, 19-21, 21-18 and 21-19. Both Sumbal and Urooj gave each other a good fight. Uroon, who is also gold medallist at national level, played well and marched into victory. Umbar beat Shumaila by 3-1, the score was 23-21, 19-21, 21-18 and 21-19 while Madiha of FCW beat Sana of Charsadda No. 1 by 3-0, the score was 21-19, 21-17 and 21-18.
In the second quarter-final City Gulbahar defeated Girls College Umarzai, Charsadda by 3-0. Humama beat Sonia by 3-0, the score was 21-17, 21-16 and 21-18, Saba of City Gul Bahar beat Rabia by 3-0, the score was 21-19, 21-18 and 21-19 while Neelam beat Nargis by 3-1, the score was 21-23, 21-18, 21-19 and 21-16.
In the third quarter-final Girls College Shabqadar beat Girls College Zaryab by 3-0. In the first singles Tayyab beat Shabeena Gul by 3-1, the score was 23-21, 16-21, 21-19 and 23-21, Naeema beat Mahnoor by 3-0, the score was 21-17, 21-14 and 21-18 while Nayyab beat Noor Bano by 3-0, the score was 21-19, 21-16 and 21-13.
In the fourth quarter-final Girls College Matra defeated Girls College Matra by 3-0 as in the first singles Iqra beat Khuteja by 3-0, the score was 21-18, 21-19 and 21-16, Naila beat Maheeb by 3-2 in a thrilling match as both stretched to five sets, the score was 21-23, 14-21, 21-19, 23-21 and 21-18 while in the last match Sonia beat Shaheena by 3-0, the score was 21-19, 21-17 and 21-19.
Now FCW will face City Gulbahar in the first semi-final while Girls College Shabqadar will clash against Girls College Matra in the second semi-final.
Earlier, in the first round matches Girls College Umarzai defeated Tajo Bibi Charsadda by 3-0 while Bacha Khan Girls College secured victory against Girls College Chargarmaty.
