Four media persons received injuries while their digital equipment burnt to ashes when an angry mob barged into the premises of Hyderabad Press Club on Friday. According to eye-witnesses, activists of different religious parties and groups had gathered for a demonstration in front of Hyderabad Press Club. People belonging to one of these groups entered the premises of the club, beat up the club manager Ali Ahmed with lathis before they chase out media people on the upper floors of the club building.
While witnessing the violent mood of angry persons, media persons took refuge in the premises of PBC House. Of them, four media persons including Cameraman of 92-News Qasim Khan alias Aamir, Niaz Vighio, reporter of Daily Mehran, Faheem Babbar, reporter of Sindh TV, and Farhan Khan, photographer of APP, received injuries.
Angry persons took the furniture, laptops, try ports and other accessories of cameraman and photographers out of the club and set these items on fire. They also ransacked motorbikes parked outside the club building. According to club manager, the officers of the District Police were called repeatedly for help but no response was received on time. Later, a heavy contingent of police rushed to the spot.
