According to a medical report submitted to an accountability court on Saturday by jail authorities, Dr Asim is ill and he is also not mentally well. Dr Asim's absence from the proceedings of an accountability court yesterday irked the judges who asked why the suspect had not been presented before the court. In response, Dr Asim's lawyer replied that he too was not aware of the reason behind his client's absence from the hearing. It was at this point that jail authorities presented Dr Asim's medical report before the court.
According to details contained in the medical report, Dr Asim is not well and his mental condition is also not stable; hence he could not appear in person before the court. The report also stated that he was undergoing treatment at Jinnah Hospital. An inquiry report in an accountability court had accused Dr Asim of causing a Rs 450 billion loss to the national kitty through corruption, money laundering, illegal allotment of land and other crimes.
