International Steels Limited (ISL) inaugurated its capacity expansion at its state-of-the-art steel complex in Karachi on March 5. The Rs 3.2 billion expansion increased ISL's production capacity to over 500,000MT of which 400,000MT can be galvanised. The expansion comprised converting its state-of-the-art Compact Cold Rolling Mill (CCM) to a twin stand reversing mill, adding a second Galvanising line and the successful installation and commissioning of the first Colour Coating Steel Plant in the country.
The factory is fully compliant to the National Environment Quality Standards. Daily requirements of 340,000 gallons of industrial water is taken from the subsoil and filtered rather than further taxing the overloaded water supply system of the city. This expansion will allow added impetus and confidence to the downstream engineering and construction sector, and has also resulted in ISL being able to meet 100 percent of the coated steel demand of the country. Minister of State and Chairman Board of Investment Dr Miftah Ismail inaugurated the complex. A number of notable dignitaries attended the event including a delegation of over 13 members from Sumitomo Corporation and JFE steel Japan. Other notables included the Counsel Generals of Japan and Germany.-PR
