This is apropos a news item "Suicide bomber kills 17 at Shabqadar court" carried by the newspaper on Tuesday. According to it, 17 people including three women were killed and 30 others injured when a suicide bomber targeted district courts' compound in tehsil Shabqadar, District Charsadda. The bomber exploded himself when he was intercepted by security guards at the main gate of the courts. The death toll might have been much higher had those guards not intercepted the bomber. While they were able to significantly reduce or contain the number of those killed and injured in the attack they laid down their precious lives in performance of their duty. No doubt, they are true heroes of the nation.
That the operation Zarb-e-Azb has instilled a new confidence among law-enforcement agencies is a fact that has found its best expression in the heroics of security guards at the district courts. The political leadership is therefore required to protect and preserve the gains made by country's law-enforcement agencies. A highly significant improvement in Karachi's law and order, for example, is also one such major gain.
