Pakistan has integrated the objectives and targets of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2030 in our national economic and development planning, which will enable Pakistan to join the league of upper middle class countries by 2030. This was stated by Sartaj Aziz, Foreign Affairs Adviser at a special event held on Friday, at the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), in Bangkok.
Aziz noted that Pakistan's seriousness in implementing SDGs was reflected in the 'Vision 2025', which was a policy framework of the Government of Pakistan to build upon the Millennium Development Goals and used it as a launching pad for complete fulfilment of the SDGs before 2030. Pakistan is perhaps the first country to formalise broad political support for the SDGs through adoption of a unanimous resolution in National Assembly of Pakistan on 19 February 2016.
Aziz also highlighted Pakistani Government's economic policies that had infused greater realisation in the international community and financial institutions of the country's economic strength. Referring to the priority attached by the Government to agriculture and youth sectors, the Adviser mentioned Prime Minister's Agricultural Package of Rs 341 billion and the Youth Programmes with a budget outlay of Rs 20 billion. Pakistan's Foreign Adviser was in Bangkok to participate in the 14th Ministerial meeting of the Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD).-PR
