Laasoona Welfare Organization, a local NGO in collaboration with Directorate of Culture, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa organised a painting exhibition and competition at Sheikh Maltoon Town, Mardan on Sunday.
Around 50 young local artistes participated in the competition where large numbers of beautiful handcrafted paintings and art-work were put on display. Noted social worker Zahir Shah Toru and Tehsil council's member Ilyas Khan inaugurated the event.
Young artistes highlighted various aspects of KP culture and ethnic groups in their art-works. Participants showered the artistes with praise. A large number of local elders, notables, students, teachers and art-lovers attended the event and expressed keen interest in the paintings reflective of imaginative flight of the young artistes.
Huma Gul, student of Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan, 7th grader Hasan Akhtar and Abdul Basit grabbed first, second and third position in the painting contest.
Huma Gul the recipient of first prize on the occasion told this reporter that she felt pride in her talent and expected that KP government would continue to provide such platforms.
"Young artistes need opportunities, encouragement and public appreciation of their talent. I am so happy today and have no words to express my feelings. I dedicate my award to my parents and teachers who provided me guidance and also I pay tribute to organisers of the event," Miss Gul said.
Speaking at the event Zahir Shah Toru said that young artistes had beautifully exhibited different colours and aspects of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa which was expressive of their talent and creativity.
He pointed out that there was no dearth of talent in the province and if given and provided a platform, young people could do wonders. He appreciated the KP Culture Department for providing a rare platform to young talent to come forward and display their ability and creativity. He said he saw bright future of all young participants who contested in the art competition.
Chief organisers of Laasoona Welfare Organization -Jahangir and Amir remarked that the basic objective of the painting competition was to encourage young artistes and make them glorify different cultures and diversity of our province.
They said artistes could revive indigenous art and culture through their inborn talent. They said the event was conducted to apprise young generation of the local artistes' vision and various faces of our diverse cultures.
Former senior government official Haji Sardar Ali and lyas Khan also spoke at the event.
Later, the chief guest distributed shields and commendation certificates among the winners and contestants.
