A faction of traders of Multan on Wednesday staged a demonstration in front of Multan Chamber when Federal Finance Minister Ishaq Dar reached there along with Advisor to Prime Minister on Revenue Haroon Akhtar Khan, Chairman of Federal Board of Revenue Nisar Muhammad Khan.
The demo was led by Khawaja M Suleman Siddiqui, a central leader and Muhammad Akhtar Butt. They have dismissed the Voluntary Tax Compliance Scheme (VTCS) as only 3,000 returns were filed by non-filers till March 8, claimed a faction of traders. They were carrying placards and banners inscribed with slogans: End withholding tax on bank transactions, Let the traders survive,"Not to hoodwink the nation." Salman Siddiqui said traders would not pursue the tax scheme which was announced by the federal government in connivance with pro-government traders. Siddiqui said he had been opposing 0.6 percent withholding tax on banking transactions exceeding Rs 50,000 since day one.
