Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Eng. Iqbal Zafar Jhagra, while appreciating the sacrifices of Pak Army, security forces and patriotic tribesmen, has said that we are now entering into to the new phase of peace and stability. He said the future of FATA will be decided with the wishes and popular will of the tribal people. He said the peace has been restored not only in the tribal region but also the entire country due to the successful execution of the Operation Zarb-e-Azb.
He also expressed the resolve of the federal government of eliminating terrorism and rehabilitating tribal people affected in parts of FATA due to military operations saying that though the task was challenging but it would be overcome with the support of the people. He said that maintenance of lasting peace and repatriation of TDPs and their rehabilitation were the top most priorities of our government adding that efforts were being made to ensure the successful and dignified return of all the TDPs to their homes by the end of this year.
He was addressing a maiden press conference after assuming the office of the governor here at Governor's House, Peshawar on Monday. Speaking at the occasion, the Governor said that the role of governor was not an easy task and maintained that the Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif was determined and confident to overcome these problems with an iron hand as the present government has prioritised three areas including elimination of terrorism, overcoming energy crises and economic revival of the country as well as expeditious repatriation and rehabilitation of displaced persons in FATA.
Appreciating the sacrifices of Armed forces and civil administration, Jhagra said that TDPs repatriation was on the top agenda of the federal government and informed that over 285,000 TDPs families were repatriated to their native homes whereas the rest of the 150,000 families would be sent by end of this year.
He said concrete measures would also be taken on priority for the development of health sector, provision of modern health and education facilities to the tribesmen to improve the public health facilities and standards of education in FATA adding that Government was fully committed to take the steps for the welfare of tribesmen and to bring them into mainstream.
In reply to a question, he said that economy has been revived to a great extent whereas public order has been improved as compared to previous year adding that he was a constitutional head of the province and has a constitutional role in the province which he would fulfil with the consultation and consent of the provincial government. He also agreed closer ties between the federation and the province in vital national interest and said he would take all the stakeholders on board for peace, stability and development in the province as well as Federal Administered Tribal Areas.
He said no efforts would be spared to put an end to corruption and we will meet the expectations of tribesmen at any cost. The governor expressed the hope that 2016 would be the year of peace and tranquillity in the province due to serious nature efforts by the federal government in overcoming these issues.
In reply to a question, Governor assured that all the stakeholders would be taken on board vis-à-vis initiating reforms and determining the status of the tribal belt. Referring to CPEC (China Pakistan Economic Corridor), he said that it would be implemented at any cost and added that concerns of the federating units to this effect would be removed amicably. He said that all political parties would be taken on board with regard to CPEC before its implementation.
The Governor while highlighting the role of media in the present global scenario said that media has a paramount role in shaping public opinions. On this occasion, he highly lauded the role of Pakistani media in projecting the soft image of the country among the comity of nations and hoped that the media would continue to play positive role. He further said media has an enormous responsibility of protecting our national ideology, religious ethics and cultural heritage adding that we believe in the freedom of press but media should use this freedom to play a responsible and constructive role in accordance with the national objectives for the supremacy of constitution, strengthening of democracy and welfare of the country.
