Zonal Chairman of Pakistan Yarn Merchants Association, Sheikh Muhammad Qasim has demanded the authority concerned to end electricity loadshedding as catchments areas received heavy rains, resultantly unprecedented increase in water in the rivers was witnessed. Talking to newsmen here on Monday, he said that recent heavy rains have increased the water in river Chenab from 8300 cusecs to 46000 cusecs, in river Jehlum 20841 to 25279 cusecs, in river Indus from 24700 to 41000 cusecs.
This abundant flow of water could be harnessed to produces additional hydle power to reduce the electricity loadshedding. He said the government often announces starting production from various projects and adding newly generated power to national grid but the loadshedding is still continuing without any relief to peoples.
No one knows where the newly generated electricity goes, he questioned. Yet another claim put forth by authorities concerned is that Pakistan is producing cheap nuclear electricity and has increased production from Chashma Nuclear plant and there was increase in over all production of electricity in the country. He said if all these claims were true then they should be substantial decrease in loadshedding where as the ground reality is the city areas are being subjected to load shedding of 8 to 10 hours and rural areas from 12 to 14 hours a day. Qasim said it appears that deliberate obfuscation is being carried out in figures of electricity production and its demand subjecting the people to menace of loadshedding due to mismanagement and inefficiency concerned departments.
