Former leader of Mutahhida Qaumi Movement Raza Haroon on Monday joined Mutafa Kamal's camp, supporting the stance of former mayor against MQM chief Altaf Hussain. Flanked by Mustafa Kamal and Anis Qaimkhani in DHA at a news conference Haroon criticised Altaf Hussain for his alleged ties with RAW. During the news conference, Kamal announced that he would announce his party's name on March 23.
Raza Haroon said that Kamal had taken a bold step on March 03. "It is a proof of his patriotism," he remarked. He said that Kamal stood against the oppressors and started a battle for justice. The MQM did not fulfil its promises, he said, adding that the party was not created to 'worship an individual [Altaf]'.
A patriotic Mohajir community has ended up being labelled "RAW agents", he said. Haroon said: "It's been one year since the BBC broadcast RAW-funding allegations against the party and its leadership but the party has yet to move the court over these allegations". He said that MQM has never contradicted the statements of Sarfraz Merchant, who has been under integration by London police for his involvement in money laundering case against Altaf Hussain.
He said all four provincial assemblies of the country have approved resolutions against Altaf Hussain. "In fact Kashmir assembly has also passed a resolution against MQM chief," he said. "MQM do not need conspiracy from outside, it is facing destruction from within," Haroon said. He accused Altaf Hussain of being an Indian agent and a 'dictatorial drunkard' who has mismanaged the affairs of Pakistan's biggest city from his base in north London.
