Unidentified armed men on Monday robbed a jewellery shop located at one of the city's busiest commercial markets - Tariq Road in the limits of Firozabad police station. SHO Ferozabad police station Javaid Butt told Business Recorder that the incident occurred in morning when four masked men barged into 'Syed Jewellers shop', held all the employees hostage on gunpoint and took away huge quantity real and artificial jewellery and gold.
CCTV footage also shows five to six dacoits barging into the shop. There are reports that nearly 24 kg jewellery and gold worth Rs 60 million have been taken away in the robbery incident. However, the SHO rejected the reports, saying that exact value and quantity of robbed jewellery/gold is yet to be calculated. The actual worth of robbed valuables will be ascertained after registration of FIR, he added.
One of the shopkeepers at Tariq road said: "Law enforcement agencies (LEAS) have made considerable efforts to control major crimes in the city during the last couple of year. However, he deplored that they (LEAS) remained unable to curb the menace of street crimes so far. Elaborating he said bank/shop robberies and mobile/vehicle snatching incidents keep taking place at every part of the metropolis now and then. He urged the government to devise a mechanism to curb street crimes so that peaceful environment could be ensured for both businessmen and general citizens.
