This is apropos "Operation in Fata: COAS underscores need for protecting, preserving gains" carried by Business Recorder yesterday. According to this news item, Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif has said that as we move towards conclusion of large-scale kinetic operation in Fata, there is a need to look ahead and consolidate gains for long term. Addressing a Corps Commanders Conference at General Headquarters General Raheel Sharif is said to have underscored the need for an escalated pace of Intelligence-Based Operations (IBOs) across the country to eliminate the entire infrastructure of terrorism in Pakistan.
In this regard, the Army Chief has directed more effective border management and continued proactive dominance of the cleared areas to maintain the writ of state in Fata. One of the key steps that the government must take immediately is articulation of a strategy aimed at ensuring the safe and secure return of all the Temporarily Displaced Persons (TDPs) as per laid down timeline, he added.
The gains made so far through the operation Zarb-e-Azb and the National Action Plan (NAP) are precious; these need to be protected and preserved at all costs. The political leadership is required to play a more proactive role in this regard. It must work towards evolving consensus on ending bickerings, differences and fissures among political parties themselves insofar as the implementation of the NAP is concerned.
