Governor State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) Ashraf Mahmood Wathra inaugurated the BRR Tower at I I Chundrigar Road, Karachi. The building is self sufficient in electricity generation through windmills and solar panels.
Wathra said on the occasion, "I am here because this building is special - a green environment friendly building and the first of its kind in Karachi and the country". Governor SBP appreciated the initiative of BRR Tower management and said, "So far only Parliament House is converted to environment friendly solar panels in Pakistan".He further said that such initiatives by the private sector, however small, are indicative of the fact that the nation extends its full support to the government while facing this challenge of power shortages. The governor also urged other commercial buildings to come up with similar initiatives.
Rafique Dawood, Chairman BRR appreciated the Governor SBP for visiting the building and expressing his support of this green initiative for Pakistan.
It may be recalled here that BRR Tower is constructed on 2000 square yard land and it has two wind turbines with installed capacity of 15KV and solar panels which can generate 3KV of electricity besides regular electricity and stand-by generators.
