Governor Sindh and Chancellor Karachi University Dr Ishrat ul Ebad Khan has said that award of honourary degrees by Karachi University to persons engaged in serving common man is a tremendous tradition for which its management should be commended.
This he said while addressing a special convocation held at Governor House to confer D.Litt. (Honoris Causa) degree upon Sardar Yasin Malik and Haji Hanif Tayyab said a statement on Wednesday.
Senior Minister Education Nisar Ahmed Khuhro, Advisor Auqaf Abdul Qayoum Soomro, former Prime Minister and Governor Sindh Mohammed Mian Soomro, former Governor Sindh Lieutenant General Moinuddin Hyder(R), Commander Pakistan fleet Vice Admiral Arif ullah Hussaini and Chairman TDAP, S M Muneer were also present on the occasion.
Governor Sindh said that the unanimous approval by the syndicate of Karachi University for award of degree to both of them is recognition of their selfless services for humanity.
To honour and recognise the devotion and commitment of such individuals is a sign of a living and civilised society and it encourages others to follow their lead, he added.
Governor Sindh said that Sardar Yasin Malik and Haji Hanif Tayyab have utilised all of their abilities to minimise the sufferings of common man by contributing in health, education and other social sectors and as such they have been conferred honourary degrees on merit.
Vice Chancellor Karachi University Professor Dr Muhammad Qaisar addressing on the occasion said that both of them are very active members of University's syndicate and it is decided unanimously to award honourary degrees to them in recognition of their untiring services.
