The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) led Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government on Wednesday announced 'Tourism Policy' to attract tourists and provide better facilities to them in the province. Under the policy, the Tourism Corporation Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (TCKP) has set a target to generate Rs 50billion revenue from tourism sector. The policy envisages changing the Peshawar Fort (Qila-e-Bala Hisar) into a tourists' spot, wherein hotels, and other facilities would be available for tourists.
PTI Chairman Imran Khan formally launched the policy during a ceremony held at Changa Gali, a scenic valley of Galyat. Muhammad Azam Khan, Additional Chief Secretary, Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Mehmood Khan, Advisor to Chief Minister Abdul Muneem Khan, Managing Director TCKP, Mushtaq Ahmad Khan, General Manager Admin and Property Sajjad Hamid, and other high officials attended the ceremony.
Speaking the occasion, PTI chief termed the announcement of the first-ever tourism policy by the KP a landmark step, which could promote tourism in the province. He said that setting Rs 50 billion revenue generation target through tourism sector was a good step, adding that the Peshawar Fort would be turned into a tourist spot.
Khan said that devising tourism policy after the passage of 18th constitutional amendments was a model for other provinces. He appreciated the efforts of TCKP in this regard. He announced that youth policy would be introduced soon in the province.
PTI chairman said that the government would take all possible measures for provision of best facilities to tourists in the province, adding that around 400 rest-houses, along with Chief Minister House in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa would be commercialised gradually in order to give access to tourists and common men to these spots easily.
