Governor Sindh Dr Ishrat ul Ebad Khan has said that restoration of construction work on second track of Lyari Express Way (LEW), which was pending since 2008, is a welcome news for Karachiites which would ensure much improved transport facilities to commuters. This he said while talking with media men at the site of start of work on the second track near Esa Nagri here on Thursday, said a statement.
Minister Transport Mumtaz Ali Jakhrani, Minister Local Government Jam Khan Shoro, Commissioner Karachi Syed Asif Hyder Shah, Administrator KMC Roshan Ali Shaikh also accompanied Governor Sindh.
Dr Ebad said that people of Karachi were dreaming for completion of LEW for a long time and this is start of realisation of their dream.
This very essential project was delayed due to various multiple reasons which included the matters of right of way, resettlement and
payment of compensation in this regard, he added.
He said that now all hurdles and bottlenecks have been removed which included both right of way and compensation, the work has been started today and would be completed within 18 months.
With the construction of remaining 5.3 kilometres the track from Mauripur Road to Sohrab goth would be operative for the commuters, he said.
The Governor Sindh said that this Express Way would not only resolve various traffic related problems but it would also ensure connectivity to different roads, save valuable time and reduce distances.
After improvement in law and order situation steps are being taken to accelerate overall development process specially in social sector so as to ensure all basic amenities of life to the masses, he opined.
Replying a question Governor Sindh said that in initial survey there were 15000 houses in the way of LEW which later increased considerably due to various claims and litigation.
Officers found involved in corruption in the resettlement process would not be spared at any cost, he assured while responding to another question.
He also said that there were many mosques, Imam bargahs, churches and graveyards in the way of this express way and the relocation of the same took time while court cases also delayed its construction.
Governor Sindh was informed that the matter of right of way and compensation has been resolved and the stay order period in this regard has also expired.
He was further informed that initially Rs 45 million have been released for start of work while remaining amount would also be provided soon.
