The Executive Board of National Highway Authority (NHA) has approved the construction of flyover at Shaheen Chowk on Gujrat Bypass (N-5) in district Gujrat. The decision was taken in the meeting at NHA HQ on Friday. Chairman NHA Shahid Ashraf Tarar presided over the meeting.
The meeting was informed that Shaheen Chowk is one of the most congested points on GT Road (N-5) as the entire traffic from Lahore and Sargodha to Rawalpindi (and vice versa) as well as normal traffic of N-5 converge here. This is causing disarrayed traffic movement with reduced safety. The construction of a flyover would, therefore, greatly help in smoothing the flow of traffic at this particular place.
The scope of work includes construction of bridge, ramps, service road and rehabilitation of existing road. The project is being financed through Government of Pakistan funds and was awarded to M/s SARCO, the lowest evaluated responsive bidder at a bid price of Rs 82.04 million, which is 9.61 percent below the engineer's estimate, thus resulting in a considerable amount as saving to the national exchequer.-PR
