A 5-member larger bench of the Chief Justice of Pakistan Anwar Zaheer Jamali disposed of identical pleas filed by Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA), all the provincial High Court Bar Association and Islamabad District Bar Association against the sit-ins of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and Pakistan Awami Tehreek at Constitution Avenue in August 2014.
Appearing before a larger bench, former President of the SCBA Kamran Murtaza requested the court to dispose of the pleas, saying these petitions became infructuous as both the political parties have recognised the existing political system in the country. He further pleaded that all the pleas were filed to protect the democratic system from any possible derailment, adding that no more cause of action was there so the matter may be disposed of. The bench disposed of the petitions.
