Sindh Chief Minister, Syed Qaim Ali Shah, has said that he wants to see Cadet College Gadap as one of the best educational institutions not only in Pakistan but also in Asia. "This is the reason that I have made Corps Commander Karachi as Chairman of its board of Governors," he stated while presiding over the Board of Governors meeting of Cadet College Gadap held at the CM House on Friday.
Those who attended the meeting include Senior Minister for Education Nisar Khuhro, Corps Commander Karachi Naveed Mukhtar Chairman, Chief Secretary Siddique Memon, GOC Major General Shahzad Naeem Vice Chairman, Secretary Education Fazal Pechuho, Secretary Finance Sohail Rajput, Commander Log Brigadier Mazhar Iqbal Kyani, and others.
The CM said that Cadet College Gadap project has been launched in rural area of Karachi with Rs 1.5 billion. The objective of the project is to groom talented students of rural areas so that they could join Pakistan Army. "This is why, the project has been handed over to Corps Commander Karachi Lieutenant General Naveed Mukhtar," he said and added "he is the man of commitment and can make the college one of the best institutions in Asia."
Giving presentation, GOC Major General Shahzad Naeem said that the project stretches over 100 acres. It is located at a distance of 30 kilometres from Jinnah Terminal. It has residential complex and campus within the boundary wall. The administration block, two academic blocks, hostels, store rooms, cadet messes, science labs, four computer lab, library, auditorium, gymnasium, badminton hall, tennis court, swimming pool, staff residence, bachelors flats, staff club, hospital/dispensary, commercial area, canteen, mosque, parade ground, shooting range, cricket and hockey, football grounds and riding club are nearing completion.
"Over 80 percent construction work has been completed," he said. He said that advertisement for selection of principal of the college has been given in the national press. The principal would be a retired Brigadier of Pak Army with at least 10 years experience. He added that advertisement for necessary staff is also under the process. On the occasion, the Corps Commander Karachi said that entire process of hiring of the staff would be completed by the end of April 2016.
"I want to start the college initially with 60 cadets shortly, otherwise, it has the capacity of 300 cadets which would be completed in five years," he added. The chairman of the cadet College Board, Corps Commander Karachi Lieutenant General Naveed Mukhtar, said that the college would have special security arrangements for which, a comprehensive plan has been worked out. The CM said that he would provide funds for the entire project, including security without any delay.
"Just what I want to realise my dream by making this project a historic one," he said. The Corps Commander said that the chief minister was kind enough that he was trusting him a lot and have assigned a big task. "Inshallah I would try my best to achieve the target, the chief minister has set," he vowed. The board approved uniforms of the cadets which would be khaki with green beret, college shoulder titles, emblem as cap badge, web belt, Khaki jersy (winter) black DMS and black socks.
The college would have four cadet houses, Jinnah, Iqbal, Lateef and Shahbaz. It was also decided in the meeting that Sindhi language would also be taught as subject in the college. "The education and training of the cadets would be extra-ordinary and every one would be keen to put his/her child in the cadet college Gadap," the corps commander assured. The CM assured the Board of Governors of his full support for completion and launching of the project. He approved the induction of Secretary Finance in the Board of the college so that their financial requirements could be made accordingly.
