The government in line with the implementation of National Action Plan (NAP) has shut down 254 religious seminaries across the country over their involvement in suspicious activities. Moreover, monitoring of 190 seminaries involved in receiving funds from foreign countries has been handed over to Federal Investigation Agency.
The registration form for registration of seminaries jointly prepared by National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA) and ITMP has been dispatched to the concerned provincial and federal security institutions for seeking their opinion.
The Interior Ministry has completed the procedure of collecting data of religious seminaries in Punjab and federal capital Islamabad, while in other three provinces a lot of work has to be done in this regard.
One hundred sixty-seven suspected seminaries in Sindh, 13 in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, two in Punjab, and 72 unregistered madrassas in Sindh have been closed so far.
