The British High Commissioner-designate, Thomas Drew CMG, is visiting Karachi, returning to the city for the first time since he was last here in 2007 and for the first time in his new role. He held meetings with a wide range of people from the worlds of business, media and politics. The High Commissioner-designate discussed a range of bilateral issues in his meetings with Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan and Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah.
His business engagements included a meeting with Muneer Kamal, Chairman of the Pakistan Stock Exchange, and a visit to GlaxoSmithKline, one of Britain' leading pharmaceutical companies, meeting country CEO, Aziz-Ul-Haq, and his leadership team at their SITE factory.
Speaking on the first day of his visit, Thomas Drew CMG said: "I am delighted to return to Karachi, as British High Commissioner. I found the city buzzing with energy. "Karachi is the world's 6th largest cit. With an improving security situation and growing investor confidence, it has the potential to become one of the world's economic power houses, and an engine of growth for Pakistan as a whole. "Karachi will be central to the British Government's work in Pakistan throughout my time as High Commissioner. I look forward to building in Karachi on the strong human, cultural, economic and political links that characterise Britain's relationship with the whole of Pakistan."-PR
