The Executive Board Meeting (EBM) of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) was held under the chairmanship of Qamar Zaman Chaudhry, Chairman NAB at NAB Headquarter. The following decisions were made during the Executive Board Meeting (EBM). The Executive Board Meeting (EBM) decided to authorise two investigations. First investigation was authorised against Raheela Kausar, ex-MNA, Faisalabad and Awais Behram, ex-Assistant Director, EOBI/FIA. In this case, the accused persons were alleged for accumulation of assets beyond known sources of income.
Second investigation was authorised against officers of National Bank of Pakistan (NBP). in this case, the officers and staff posted at the four Branches of National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) in Bangladesh got involved in the abuse of discretionary powers in processing and sanctioning of credit limits, failed to perform due diligence, wilfully avoided to conduct proper valuation of securities offered by the borrowers and caused huge loss to the national exchequer to the tune of US $185 million.
The EBM also decided to re-authorise one investigation against Mehmood Alam, Ex-Federal Secretary, Ministry of Climate Change and Sikander Aslam, Member Accountant Appellate Tribunal Inland Revenue, Karachi, Director of M/s Ssangyong Korea & Usmani Associates, officers/officials of Board of Investment, Federal Board of Revenue and others. In this case, the accused persons were alleged for misuse of authority, illegal exemption availed under SRO 575 on Custom Duty in excess of 5% and whole of Sales Tax and illegal refund of Sales Tax, thus causing loss of Rs 410.62 millions to the national exchequer.
The Executive Board Meeting (EBM) decided to authorise inquiry against Management of NTDC and TIBL and others. In this case, the accused persons were alleged for corruption and corrupt practices thus caused loss of Rs 120 million to the national exchequer.
The EBM also authorised two Complaint Verification (CV). First Complaint Verification was authorised against Akhter Baloch, Vice Chancellor Benazir Bhutto Shaheed University Lyari, Karachi Sindh and others. In this case, the accused persons were alleged for misuse of authority by allegedly illegally appointing 90 employees (BPS-16 to 20) in University in violation of Government rules and regulations.
Second Complaint Verification was authorised against Dr Parveen Shah, Vice Chancellor (VC) Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur, Sindh and others. In this case, the accused persons were alleged for assets beyond known sources of income, misuse of authority, misappropriation and embezzlement in Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur, Sindh funds, thus caused a loss of Rs 200 million to the national exchequer.
The Executive Board Meeting (EBM) has also decided to close one inquiry against officers/officials of Expanded Programme of Immunisation (EPI), NIH due to lack of incriminating evidence. The EBM also gave approval for Acceptance of Repayment/Arrangements/NOC to Bank of Punjab (BoP) for Settlement in two cases; First case against M/s Amson Vaccines & Pharma (Pvt) Ltd and second case against M/s DCD Pakistan (Pvt) Ltd. The meeting ended with the resolve to pursue all cases fairly, transparently and expeditiously.-PR
