Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sindh A. D. Khawaja has said that police department will soon approach Chief Minister Sindh to allow new recruitment in police to overcome manpower shortage. Addressing members of Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI), he said that the department was facing shortage of around 6500 police personnel. All recruitments will be made on merit, he assured.
He said that after taking charge he had directed the DIGs, SSPs and SPs that anyone from police found involved in land grabbing activities must be sacked immediately. Khawaja said that confidence of the community was police first priority and if the protector would make allegiance with thieves, this confidence could not be established. Khawaja said in most cases people are not prepared to give witness in courts in extortion and kidnapping for ransom cases, which reduced conviction rate in these cases. He said that he had been demanding more funds and legal authorities to make witness protection more effective and successful He informed that Rs 20 million had been allocated to further improve process of issuing driving license.
He said that efforts were been made to improve traffic flow and implement traffic rules. Referring to encroachments in industrial areas, he assured that police department would fully cooperate with concerned departments. Responding to former president of KATI Zubair Chaya's complaint about activities of Land Mafia in Ahsanabad Area, Khawaja said that although police was not directly responsible for these issues, community should contact commissioner and concerned DCs for their complaints in this regards and added that police was ready to provide any legal or operational assistance to curb land grabbing on its part.
Petron-in-Chief Kati S. M Muneer said that Pakistan Rangers Sindh and Police collectively made incredible efforts for enforcement of law and order in Karachi, and now heavy investments were being attract due to peaceful situation in the city. Acting President KATI Saleem Uzzaman briefed about prevailing law and order condition in the industrial area in detail.
Head of KATI's standing committee on Law & Order Nadeem Khan briefed IG Sindh about the shortage of police force and patrolling vehicles in KIA. He also briefed about the land grabbing activities in Mehran Town area. Additional IG Karachi Mushtaq Mahar, DIGs, SSPs, SPs, vice president of KATI Syed Wajid Hussain, and others were also present in this meeting.
