Administrator Karachi Roshan Ali Shaikh has said that the government is making serious efforts towards reducing the effects of heat waves. Speaking as a chief guest at a seminar jointly organised by Farozan and Pakistan Medical Association on the occasion of World Water Day, here at PMA House on Tuesday, he said that KMC was planting thousands of trees in various parts of the city to help prevent the citizens from heat waves in the coming years.
"Some 3000 hectares of landfill side is being constructed in Dhabeji area, of which some 2500 hectares will be covered by plants and trees," he added. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Waqar of Karachi University (KU) said that a large number of people lost their lives due to heat-stroke last year. He called upon the government to take preventive measures, considering global warming and atmospheric changes. "Plantation of mangroves at coastal areas will help resist heat waves," he suggested.
