As opposition parties and the government reach a consensus through hectic negotiations, Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq on Tuesday referred six bills to a special parliamentary committee for further consultations. Shortly after joint sitting of the Parliament resumed, Finance Minister Senator Ishaq Dar moved a motion, seeking referral of the bills to the parliamentary committee for recommendations and proposals.
These bills will be presented again in the joint session on April 11, 2016. The bills include the controversial "The Pakistan International Airlines Corporation (Conversion) Bill, 2016," for consideration. The joint session adopted a motion of constituting a 10-member committee for preparing recommendations and proposals on the six bills. The committee will finalise its recommendations and proposals on the bills by the April 7.
In another motion adopted by the joint session, the bills were referred to the 10-member Parliamentary Committee for further consultations and proposals. The committee members included seven members from the National Assembly, while three from Senate.
One of the bills on agenda of the joint sitting, "The Gas Theft Control and Recovery Bill, 2014," was passed with a majority vote on Monday. Other bills referred to the committee include: The Emigration (Amendment) Bill, 2014, The Civil Servants (Amendment) Bill, 2014, The Anti-Rape Laws (Criminal Laws Amendment) Bill, 2015, The Anti-Honour Killing Laws (Criminal Laws Amendment) Bill, 2015 and The Privatisation Commission (Second Amendment) Bill, 2015.
