Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has greeted Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on the eve of Pakistan Day being celebrated on March 23 (today) and also reiterated his country's desire of good neighbourly relations with Pakistan as well as resolving all outstanding issues through talks.
Through a letter, addressed to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, a copy of which was also released to media persons by the Indian High Commission, Prime Minister Modi extended his "warm" greetings and felicitation on the occasion of the National Day of Pakistan. "I would like to reiterate India's desire to build good neighbourly relations with Pakistan. India remains firmly committed to resolving all outstanding issues with Pakistan through a peaceful bilateral dialogue in an atmosphere free from terrorism and violence," Prime Minister Modi said in the letter, reiterating his government stance.
The two nuclear neighbours on December 10, 2015 announced to commence "Comprehensive Bilateral Dialogue" process to discuss all outstanding issues including the Jammu and Kashmir dispute when Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj visited the country to attend the Heart of Asia conference hosted by Pakistan. However, a crucial meeting of foreign secretaries of the two countries scheduled for January 15, 2016 could not be held after the Pathankot terrorist attack and the two sides are yet to firm up the new date for the meeting.
"I take this opportunity to extend my warm wishes for your good health and will being, and peace and progress for the people of Pakistan...Please accept, Excellency, the assurance of my highest consideration", Prime Minister Modi further stated in his letter written to Prime Minister Sharif.
