Haripur bagged overall trophy of the Athletic Meet as Ali Raza of the same district declared best athlete in the Hazara Region Inter-District Games being played at different venues in Abbottabad on Tuesday. Former International Athlete M. Iqbal, was the chief guest on this occasion. Ahmad Zaman, DSO Haripur, Syed Saqlain Shah, Organising Secretary, officials, players and large number of spectators were also present.
The surface was not properly prepared for the athletic meet, however, the athlete performed well despite all odds some stunning performance were witnessed from the athletes of Haripur against Abbottabad players. Haripur claimed five gold, four silver and two bronze recorded 44 points by winning the overall trophy, followed by Abbottabad with two gold medals two silver and three bronze medals remained at second while Mansehra with one bronze and one silver medal got five points only. Batagram, Tor Gar and Kohistan got no points either.
Ali Raza of the Haripur was declared best athlete by winning 200m, 400m and long jump gold medal and a silver medal in 100m by securing 21 points. In the overall result in the 100m Sohail got the honour of being the fastest athlete after winning the 100m sprint, followed by Ali Raza won silver medal and Taimur of Mansehra got bronze medal.
In the shot put Noor Wahid of Haripur got first position, followed by Abdullah of Abbottabad and Asmat Ullah of Mansehra, in discus throw Abdullah of Abbottabad got first position, followed by Noor Wahid and Said Akbar of Abbottabad, in the long jump Ali won gold, Taimur won silver and Usama of Haripur won bronze medal. In the 4X100m relay Abbottabad got first position, followed by Haripur and Mansehera. In the 400m Ali won gold, Uzair of Haripur won silver and Shamrez of Abbottabad got bronze medal. In the 800m Uzair won gold, Uzair of Abbottabad won silver medal and Hasnain of Haripur won bronze.
In the Taekwono Abbottabad with eight gold medals in as many weights secured 120 points by taking first position, followed by Mansehra with five silver medals and a bronze secured 57 points took runners-up trophy and Haripur with two silver and two bronze medals got 34 points got third position.
In Tennis Abbottabad beat Haripur by 6-2, 6-3 and won the final, Haripur beat Abbottabad by 3-0 in table tennis, Haripur got 59.6 points in gymnastic event by taking first position, followed by Batagram with 48 points. In the boxing Abbottabad got 5 gold, and 4 silver medals took first position, followed by Haripur with four gold and five silver medal.
In Basketball Haripur beat Abbottabad 73-45, in Judo Abbottabad won five gold medals and one silver medal took first position, followed by Haripur with one gold and four silver medals. In Karate Abbottabad took 52 points by taking first position, followed by Haripur with 49 points. In Football Mansehra defeated Haripur by 5-1 in the first semi-final and Abbottabad beat Batagram by 4-0 to reach to the final. At the end, District Naib Nazim Abbottabad Shoukat Tanoli gave away trophies and cash prizes. The winner awarded Rs 15000 cash prize while the runners-up got Rs 10,000. Director Sports Tariq Mehmood was also present on this occasion.
