The Punjab advocate general has been told to wrap up his arguments by March 29 on an application challenging stay orders on the Orange Line Project for the next date of hearing. On Thursday, the petitioners' counsel told the bench that the project work was still continuing despite the court's stay order. On January 28, the court had stayed the work within a 200-feet perimeter of historical buildings.
The places where further work has been disallowed are the Lakashmi building, Shalamar Garden, GPO Chowk, Aiwan-i-Auqaf, Shah Charagh building, Supreme Court registry, Saint Andrew Church, Baba Mauj Darya's shrine, Ghulabi Bagh, Bhudhu ka Awa, Chauburji and the tomb of Zeb-un-Nisa. The project has already sparked an outcry from the civil society and religious groups who believe it could ruin the monuments.
