Brisbane Roar topped Australia's A-league after beating finals contenders Sydney FC, as defending champions Melbourne Victory triumphed against the Western Sydney Wanderers in the last rounds of the contest.
In a dramatic clash on Saturday night, Henrique scored in the dying minutes for the Roar to seal a memorable 3-2 win over Sydney. The victory all but ended the Sky Blues' chances of securing a spot in the finals.
Adelaide United, second in the table, came from behind to record a 4-2 win over the Central Coast Mariners on Sunday.
Victory on Friday reminded pundits that they too should not be discounted for the finals series as they overcame the Wanderers 2-0.
Roar coach John Aloisi said they were focused not on the prospect of silverware but on the next game against the Newcastle Jets, who lost 1-2 against Perth Glory on Saturday to leave them eighth on the ladder. "There's no (premiership) talk among the players - we are taking it still one game at a time," the Daily Telegraph quoted him as saying.
"As you saw tonight, Sydney FC, one of the biggest clubs in the competition... with probably one of the best squads, they might not make the six.
