Muttahida Qaumi Movement's (MQM) leader MNA Dr Farooq Sattar has announced to support the Council of Pakistan Newspapers Editors (CPNE) in their struggle for right to information (RTI) legislation in Sindh Assembly. Dr Sattar offered the unconditional support to the CPNE during a meeting at the CPNE office, here on Monday. The CPNE had invited Dr Sattar to attend a meeting with the CPNE on the matter. A delegation of MQM Parliamentarians including Central Information Committee in-charge Amin Ul Haque, MNAs and MPAs headed by Dr Sattar had met CPNE office-bearers.
The CPNE has prepared a draft bill on the RTI and had approached all sections especially the major political parties in Sindh Assembly; Pakistan People's Party (PPP) and the MQM to garner their support to get the draft bill passed from the Assembly. The CPNE had also met Sindh Chief Minister on the same matter and since the MQM is the largest political party after PPP in Sindh Assembly, the CPNE also invited the MQM to discuss and support the draft law.
Following the meeting with the MQM, the CPNE would now pass on the draft Bill to the ruling PPP in Sindh Assembly and a copy of the same to the MQM to read, review and adopt it as law by ensuring the passage of the draft Bill as law from the Assembly.
