Security concerns: traders for bringing police stations under Rangers' control
Traders have called the security arrangements in the city insufficient to cope with any terrorism incidents, demanding handing over of police stations to Rangers to scale up the fragile order. The Lahore blast left the local markets completely deserted as customers remained indoors in the wake of fear for insecurity, traders said, adding that the Sindh government had no plans to shield the businessmen and public from terrorism.
"Following blast in Lahore the Sindh government played no role in extending security shield in Karachi to dispel public fears and help normalize the tense social atmosphere," Chairman All Karachi Tajir Ittehad, Atiq Mir said on Thursday. He said that the business activities were still far from normal that had plunged over 60 percent on the terror day. "A significant number of police personnel are mainly deployed to protect politicians, ministers and government officials not public," he said.
He demanded that Rangers should hold the police stations to scale down the rising crimes and fears among the public. The existing security arrangements are next to incomplete, he said, adding that the government should step up to ensure a better plan for a durable peace.
Calling the police personnel as mere 'scarecrow', he said that the dull and inertia hit officials had no enthusiasm to serve public with spirit. "Poor demeanour of police officials, defected arms and weak character are the highlights of the entire department," he slammed, saying "public cannot hold trust on them". On the Sindh government, Atiq Mir said that the authorities were non-serious to raise the level of security in the metropolis. "Everyone in the city depends on Rangers since police and the Sindh government are engaged for their interest," he said, adding that Rangers had the capacity to cope with all kind situations.
