University of Peshawar clinched the trophy after defeating University of Central Punjab team in the final of the All-Pakistan Inter-University Men Tennis Championship played here at grassy courts of the University of Peshawar on Thursday. Treasurer University of Peshawar Dr Yourid Ihsan Zia was the chief guest on this occasion. Director Sports University of Peshawar Bahre Karam, Organising Secretary Saleem Khan, Yahya Khan, Ihsan Khan, teams officials, players and spectators were also present and witnessed the thrilling final.
A total of 10 University teams took part in the Championship organised by the Directorate of Sports University of Peshawar. In the final Ijaz defeated Bilal of Central Punjab by 6-2 and 6-1, in the second singles Fawad Salim of UoP beat Zaka Ullah by 7-5 and 6-3. In the third position match Punjab University defeated NUST by 2-0, in the first singles Zaryab of PU beat Usman of NUST by 6-2 and 6-1 and in reply NUST Shah Roz beat Aqil of PU by 6-2, 6-3. To decide the fate of the match it was the doubles in which PU Zaryab and Tufail beat Shah Roz and Bilal by 2-0, the score was 6-3 and 6-1. Thus PU got third position.
