Federation's plea regarding high treason case: IHC issues notices to Justice Dogar, Shaukat, others

Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday issued notices to former Chief Justice of the apex court Abdul Hameed Dogar, former Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, former and incumbent Law Minister Zahid Hamid in response to federation plea seeking modification of its verdict to re-probe the role of abettors in high treason case.
On November 27, 2015, the Special Court trying former army chief and president Pervez Musharraf under the charges of high treason had directed the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to reinvestigate the matter by recording the statements of Musharraf, Abdul Hameed Dogar, Shaukat Aziz and Zahid Hamid afresh and submit a report by December 17. The verdict was challenged before the IHC to which a division bench of Justice Noorul Haq N Qureshi and Justice Aamir Farooq announced the judgement, directing the investigative agency to probe the issue without being influenced by verdicts of the courts.
However, the federation filed review petition before the IHC in the matter seeking to expunge the remarks made by the Special Court against the federal government and the investigating agency that earlier investigation was defected. Appearing before a division bench of Justice Noorul Haq N Qureshi and Justice Athar Minallah in the matter Additional Attorney General Afnan Karim Kundi requested the court to review its earlier order. Later, the bench issued notices to all the respondents and adjourned the hearing of the case for two weeks.
