The military in co-ordination with law enforcement agencies launched a new offensive in southern Punjab, officials announced Wednesday, weeks after a suicide bomber killed more than 70 people in Lahore. "Co-ordinated operations are underway against terrorists and hardened criminals," read a ISPR statement. The statement also included images of military helicopters hovering over the plains of Punjab and paramilitary troops loading ammunition into trucks and preparing for an operation.
NNI adds: Pakistan army Wednesday said that the terrorists fleeing operation Zarb-e-Azb are taking shelter in parts of Punjab. According to Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), targeted operation is underway in katcha areas of Rujhan and Rahim Yar Khan cities. The ISPR further said that operations are being carried out against terrorists, criminal elements and other insurgents.
Pakistan Rangers and Counter Terrorism Department intensified targeted operation with the help of Pakistan Army in parts of Punjab following a suicide attack at Gulshan-e-Iqbal Park in Lahore that left over 75 people dead and injuring more than 300. It says terrorists flee from different parts of the country as a result of successful Operation Zarb-e-Azb and took refuge in remote areas of Rohjan and Kache in district Rahim Yar Khan.
